The CBD craze is currently sweeping America. People are putting it in smoothies, lotions, and even cosmetics. But there seems to be a lot of confusion around the product. What is it? Is it safe to apply directly to the skin? Can we put it in anything?
We want to clear that up and tell you about the benefits of CBD oil for massage and how we use it to benefit our clients.
What is CBD Oil?
CBD (cannabidiol) is one of two dominant phytocannabinoids found in cannabis – the other is THC. If high levels of THC (the phytocannabinoid which is known to alter your state of mind) is found in the plant, it’s referred to as marijuana. But if there are low levels present, we refer to it as hemp.
CBD oil is a combination of CBD extract and a carrier oil, such as hemp oil. To be legal, it must contain <.3% of THC.
Can CBD Get You High?
THC is the cannabinoid found in marijuana that creates the high. It acts on different receptors in the cannabinoid system than CBD, so they do not have the same effect. This means that CBD oil is not a drug and does not have the same effect as drugs.
According to an article from Current Drug Safety, CBD is safe to use, even at high doses.
Is It the Same as Marijuana?
Marijuana contains THC which is what puts the user in an altered mental state when it’s heated. CBD, however, is not able to produce that same effect.
However, CBD can be extracted from both marijuana and hemp; but CBD derived from marijuana is not legal here in Ohio, except for medicinal use. So if that is a major concern for you, you have no need to fear what we offer at MG Sports Massage.
What are the Benefits of CBD Oil for Massage?
CBD oil can aid in:
- Reducing inflammation and pain
- Calming stress and anxiety
- Reducing muscle spasms, seizures, and tremors
- And more
Because of the effects, this makes CBD oil for massage use a pain-relief solution for those suffering from conditions such as Parkinson’s, epilepsy, inflammatory diseases like arthritis, and even PTSD.
What do Massage Therapists Use?
In the MG Sports Massage clinic, we use a topical analgesic oil for CBD massage therapy. A massage that includes CBD oil will start off like any other massage, and then we’ll move to the problem area.
Maybe you have a tight muscle in your calf that’s been bothering you from not stretching. Or maybe you pulled something in your shoulder during tennis practice. Whatever the issue, wherever the area, we’ll massage it with cream and then the topical analgesic oil.
How Does It Work, Topically?
We each have what’s called a cannabinoid system. Many of the receptors within this system are located in the skin. The CBD molecules in the oil react positively to these receptors on the surface.
Because the cannabinoid system is a more recent discovery, we’re still learning much about it and how it works.
Can I Purchase it Directly to Use on My Own?
Absolutely. In fact, we would suggest using the brand CBD BioCare. Just use the code mgsports at checkout for an additional 5% off.
We suggest this company to our clients because it is:
- Whole plant extracted
- Organically grown here in the US
- 3rd-party tested for your safety four times before it is shipped
- Manufactured in an FDA food-grade facility.
All of these things make it a safe, quality product you can feel good about using on yourself and your family.
